Achieving Personal Sustainability: The Balanced LifeStar Approach

As we step into the mid-year month of June, my focus turns to an essential aspect of our lives that often gets overlooked in our relentless pursuit of excellence—Personal Sustainability.

Personal Sustainability is the ability to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle so that you have the energy, resilience, and wellbeing to meet the demands of your life, both now and in the future. It's about understanding your limits, respecting them, and making conscious choices that contribute to your overall well-being.

In a world where high achievers like you strive to excel in every aspect of life - be it work, family, or sports - it's easy to lose sight of your own needs. You may find yourself juggling multiple roles, trying to please everyone, and in the process, neglecting your own health and happiness. But remember your ability to make a positive impact, to be present for your loved ones, and to enjoy your favourite pastimes all hinges on one thing - your personal sustainability.

So, how can you achieve this? The answer lies in the LifeStar's five-point principles.

  1. Move: This is about incorporating physical activity into your daily routine. It's not just about keeping fit, but also about boosting your mood and reducing stress. Whether it's a morning jog, a quick few star jumps between appointments, or a walk in the park, make sure you're moving every day.

  2. Stop: This principle is about the importance of rest and relaxation. It's about setting boundaries and giving yourself permission to switch off and recharge. This could be as simple as not checking your emails after a certain time or ensuring you have days off where you can truly unwind.  You deserve to pause!

  3. Care: This is about prioritising your mental and emotional well-being. It's about taking care of yourself with nourishing food, practising self-compassion, managing your stress levels, and seeking support when you need it. This could involve activities like meditation, journaling, or talking to a trusted friend or professional.

  4. Connect: Strong, supportive relationships are key to our well-being. This principle encourages you to invest time and energy into the relationships that matter to you, whether that's with family, friends, or your partner. It's also about connecting with your community and the world around you.

  5. Achieve: This principle is about pursuing your goals and passions in a balanced and sustainable way. It's about setting realistic expectations, celebrating your achievements, and learning from your setbacks. It's also about mindful awareness, being present, and making conscious choices that align with your values and contribute to your overall well-being.

By blending and balancing your daily activities across these five points of the LifeStar, you'll be able to maintain the personal sustainability you need to live a fulfilling, balanced life. You'll have the energy and resilience to make the impact you want to make, to be present for the people who matter to you, and to enjoy the things you love.

Remember, you're not a machine. You're a human being with limits and needs. And it's okay to prioritize those needs. In fact, it's essential. Because, in the end, the greatest success is not about what you've achieved but about how you've lived.

Remember that personal sustainability is a journey, not a destination. It's about making small, consistent changes that add up to a more balanced, fulfilling life.

So, why not start today? Choose one of the LifeStar's five-point principles - Move, Stop, Care, Connect, or Achieve - and commit to incorporating it into your daily routine. It could be as simple as a 10-minute walk, a mindful breathing exercise, or a call to a loved one.

And if you'd like more support on your journey, consider doing more with LifeStar to guide your wellbeing.   There are online self-paced programmes and coaching options with me.  I'm here to provide resources, inspiration, and support to help you thrive in all areas of your life. Get in touch
